The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Shatrah witnessed today, Wednesday, 7 August 2025, the defence of the master's thesis of the student Angham Dhaif Shallal / Branch of Microbiology, in the presence of the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Basim Abdul-Hussein Jarallah.
The thesis is entitled:
“A Comparison between Two Antifungal Drugs and Compounds Extracted from Eucalyptus Species”
The study aimed to evaluate the antifungal activity of the leaf extract of the eucalyptus plant (Eucalyptus spp) using two organic solvents (ethyl acetate and chloroform), and to compare it with the activity of the two drugs nystatin and amphotericin B against four species of fungi.
The results of the research showed that the eucalyptus leaves widespread in Al-Shatrah District contain natural compounds that are effective against fungi, which enhances the possibility of using them as promising natural therapeutic alternatives.
The examination committee praised the student's scientific effort and the accuracy of the results, and the thesis was approved with a grade of Excellent, amid praise from the attendees for its distinguished scientific level.
